Arrestees claimed in court they were assaulted by the police

Arrestees claimed in court they were assaulted by the police, but the Police Chief Chris Tang Ping Keung replied: This is nothing new, it happens all the time.

During an arraignment on Nov 21, some arrested persons claimed that the police still beat them after the arrest. However, in a press conference on Nov 22, Chris Tang Ping Keung, the current Hong Kong police chief took this in stride and said it is nothing new.

He replied, “It is common to have arrested persons claiming they were attacked by the police, but we have a fair and just system to investigate these issues.”

He emphasized the police had not set any deadline for people staying in the PolyU campus and hoped to settle this issue peacefully.

He restated, the police had promised not to immediately arrest citizens under 18 and would treat those over 18 fairly, “using common practice.” He said, “You would not want your family, your friends and those who visit you to worry for you.”
