Hong Kong Police Brutality Condemned by Academics Around the World

3,700 renowned academics including but not limiting to Judith Butler, Slavoj Zizek, and Noam Chomsky condemn the brutality of the Hong Kong Police Force.

The petition has been pubished by Hong Kong Watch, an organisation that monitors the status of human rights in Hong Kong. Summary of the petition:

1. Condemn Hong Kong police disproportionate and vindictive brutality against students at university campuses.

2. Demand the responsible departments to stand up for academic freedom, and set up an independent inquiry, led by an impartial judge, into police brutality.

3. Condemn the unjustified use of force on Nov 11, which a traffic police fired 3 live rounds in Sai Wan Ho, and an officer ran over protestors with a motorcycle at Kwai Fong; such acts were in violation of Police General Orders Force Procedures Manual.

4. Condemn the use of hate speech by Hong Kong police, which further tears the society apart.
