Ousted pro-democracy lawmaker Lau Siu-lai won her legal challenge over the disqualification of her candidiacy in the 2018 LegCo West Kowloon By-election.
Lau was removed from her office after Beijing interpreted the Hong Kong Basic Law and the court in Hong Kong retroactively ruled her seat invalid for not having taken her oath of office “solemnly”. Lau tried to enter the by-election to take back her seat, but was barred by the Election Affairs Committee.
With the current ruling, pro-CCP Yan Chan, who took over Lau’s seat is now ousted. However, Chan can still apply for an appeal before June 10.
