In the evening of May 5, a large number of armed riot police officers entered the Tuen Mun Town Plaza multiple times, cordoning most parts of the mall up. Shops that police officers went into had to close.
The police even used the shopping mall’s PA system to warn the citizens inside the mall that they were violating the gathering ban and demanded that all citizens present leave immediately or risk being charged.
Some district councilors from the district went to the rooftop garden on the fourth floor of the mall and planned to go to the mall’s security control room to ask for explanations as to why police officers were allowed to enter the mall and use the PA system.
However, they arrived outside the control room and saw the presence of security personnel. After the security guard called for reinforcements, a large number of riot police officers arrived. Some officers even had the key to the security control room of the shopping mall, and several district councilors were brought into the control room to be searched.
In similar “Sing with You” and “Shop with You” activities in past few weeks, riot police have handed out tens of penalty tickets to civilians onsiye, arbitrarily charging them for violating the gathering ban.
It has been reported that a surprising number of only two tickets were issued for tonight’s activity.
