On the morning of December 4, 2019, roads were blocked in To Kwa Wan as part of a protest. A middle school student was subdued by a masked police in plain clothes, who sat on the student’s body.
A 47 year old man attempted to separate the two, and he is now charged for assaulting the police officer.
The case had its second hearing in the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on Apr 29, during which the prosecutors exchanged the “assaulting police” charge for “ordinary assault”.
The magistrate adjourned the case until June 10 at the request of the defendant to discuss with the Department of Justice. The defendant was released on bail under the original conditions. In addition, the prosecution applied for anonymity for the police officer to “ensure that police officer and their families will be protected from harassment”.
The anonymity order was approved today without opposition from the defendant.
