HK Police Display Reporter’s Personal ID on Live Stream Camera, But Difficult to Seek Legal Pursuit

Last year, a Stand News reporter was intercepted by riot police who intentionally displayed the reporter’s ID card in front of a camera during a live broadcast.

Sources revealed that the Hong Kong Journalist Association met with the Privacy Commissioner on March 17.

The Commissioner acknowledged that showing personal identification in front of a live camera is difficult to seek legal pursuit and considered amendments to existing privacy ordinance necessary.
